My advice to everyone who finds themselves in a similar situation is this. Be upfront. Be honest. Talk things through thoroughly and do some of your own research into herpes. Get the person interested in you first. Do not disclose your situation on a first, second or even a fifth date. Once you are starting to feel safe and emotionally close to someone, tell the person. Do not say it as if you were lessened, toxic or damaged in any way. It is important you learn to feel good about yourself first. I always recommend finding some sort of emotional support whether it is on line forums, local support groups, a caring friend or a therapist after diagnosis. You should resume dating only once you have worked your dignity and self-esteem back up. People are often mirrors.
